Blastek Concrete Designs recently completed a bathroom floor refresh at Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, NC — installing Koala epoxy flake floors on both the 1st and 2nd floor restrooms. The college wanted to update the bathrooms without the cost and downtime of a full tile removal. Rather than tearing the existing tile out, Blastek prepped directly over it — grinding the tile surface for adhesion, then grouting the entire floor so the grout lines would not telegraph through the finished coating.

With the substrate flat and sealed, the crew applied the base coat, broadcast Koala flake — a neutral gray and tan chip blend — to rejection across the field, scraped and vacuumed the surface smooth, and sealed everything with a durable top coat. The result is a clean, seamless, high sheen floor across both sets of restrooms — no visible grout lines, no tile pattern showing through, and a surface that handles the daily traffic and cleaning demands of a college campus.
